Mission: Determined to end Veteran suicide, K9s For Warriors is the nation’s leading provider of trained Service Dogs to Veterans suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma.

Q&A with K9s For Warriors

What impact does every Hearts & Hours donation make for the people or communities you serve?

Every Hearts & Hours donation directly supports K9s For Warriors’ lifesaving mission to end Veteran suicide and return our Warriors to a life of dignity and independence. Contributions help us pair Veterans living with PTSD and other invisible wounds of war with highly trained Service Dogs at no financial cost to the Veteran. At the same time, this support gives rescue dogs a second chance and a powerful new purpose, creating impact by saving lives at both ends of the leash.

Can you share a story or example of how your organization has made a difference?

The impact of our mission is seen in every Warrior who walks through our doors carrying the weight of service-related trauma, leaving with a Service Dog by their side and renewed hope for the road ahead. During our 18-day residential training program, Warriors build trust, confidence and practical skills with their Service Dogs so they can better navigate daily life, reconnect with their families and communities, and move forward with greater independence. Each graduation held every month is a powerful reminder that healing is possible.

What excites you most about students and families supporting your mission through Hearts & Hours?

We are especially inspired by the way Hearts & Hours empowers students and families to turn gratitude into action. By supporting K9s For Warriors, young people have the opportunity to learn about service, sacrifice and community impact while helping provide life-changing support to Veterans and dogs. That kind of engagement does more than raise funds – it builds the next generation of advocates for those who served our nation.

How do service hours and charitable giving work together to create a greater impact?

Service hours and charitable giving create a stronger impact when they work together. Volunteerism deepens understanding of the mission and creates personal connection, while donations provide the critical resources needed to train Service Dogs, support Warriors and sustain our programs. Together, they represent a meaningful commitment of both time and treasure, helping restore hope, independence and purpose to Veterans and dogs.
